Introduction
Hi, my name is Basanta Rana Sampang Rai. I love working on backend systems and enjoy digging into how things work under the hood. I also like reading about compilers, operating systems, databases, and system design…
Other than tech, i’m also into personal discipline, bodyweight workout, and lately, i’ve been enjoying running, making my heart race a little and fueling my brain with freshly oxygenated blood.
Building portfolio
Building this portfolio was tough! i’m just not the kind of person who enjoys doing frontend. Honestly, i’m not even sure why. Maybe it’s the lingering trauma from my early CSS battles.
I decided to build this site while experimenting with the relatively new kid in town, SvelteKit, and thankfully, Tailwind CSS had my back to bring it to life. Otherwise… you know. PHEW!!!
Still, building and styling websites isn’t exactly my idea of fun, especially the styling part. This one drained every ounce of whatever frontend energy i had left… i’m officially retired.
Thoughts on writing
Having said that, “i build this website while experimenting with SvelteKit”; i originally intented to build a place for myself, somewhere i could share my ideas, findings, experiments and experiences… that’s why this Writings tab even exists.
But sometimes i wonder, is writing still relevant? In this era of incredibly intelligent LLMs, do people even read or write anymore? Has writing, of any form, reached its end?
Whenever i think about writing something, even something technical(that’s where my experience lies), these thoughts come back to me. What is this? Imposter syndrome? Incompetence, maybe?
And honestly, i don’t see myself as the creative type who can write poems or stories.
For now, my thoughts on writing rest here (Oct 28, 2025). But who knows? One day, there might be more titles under Writings, and this Untitled Document might not feel so alone.
